Salvia Divinorum - Diviner´s Sage

Salvia Divinorum is one of the holy plants that lets mankind communicate with the spirit world. It was first used in its native environment by the Mazatecs, living in the isolated Sierra Mazateca, in Oaxaca, Mexico. The genus name Salvia is derived from the Latin root salvare, which has the meaning “to heal”. Albert Hoffman, collected species of the plant together with Gordon Wasson, and had the following to say about the name:
I was not very happy with the name because Salvia divinorum means "Salvia of the ghosts", whereas Salvia divinatorum, the correct name, means "Salvia of the priests", But it is now in the botanical literature under the name Salvia divinorum.
Salvia Divinorum is traditionally used in healing ceremonies led by the Mazatec shamans. It´s considered to be a female plant spirit and is often associated with the Virgin Mary. The consumption of the leaves produces a visionary state of consciousness. In traditional healing ceremonies, the leaves were always chewed, but as the plant is becoming more and more popular on the Internet, more potent extracts of the active components in the plant have been making its way to the market. The chewing of the leaves creates a longer, milder experiences, while the smoking of the extracts create a shorter, more intensive journey.

My own experience of smoking Salvia Divinorum was intensive. There was a strong change of body perception, and everything around me morphed into a psychedelic circus of colors, forms.. Somehow my friends head was floating somewhere in the midst of it all, talking to me in a strange language, trying to communicate, but I did not understand what he was saying, because there was no I to perceive the words, just the experience of hearing, seeing, feeling. Salvia Divinorum made me forget that I had ingested a mind-altering plant. "I" was lost for a couple of minutes.. Then I sat down, and started repeating "I smoked some salvia", while trying to put together the pieces of reality into a coherent picture once again.

The plant grows in shady and moist locations and can become over a meter high. Botanists cannot determine whether Salvia Divinorum is a cultigen, a plant that has been cultivated by humans, or a hybrid.

To order Salvia Divinorum online, I recommend Azarius, a well-known smartshop that´s been around for many years:

  1. Before we get into all the different effects of Salvia divinorum, it is very important for everyone to realize that each experience is unique. Your body will handle Salvia differently from another person. The amount of Salvia ingested, the method of ingestion and the environment all have an impact on the overall experience.
